History and facts about Chevrolet
Chevrolet is a part of General Motors since 1918, named after it´s founder, the suiss
racing driver Louis
Chevrolet. More than 100 million cars with the Chevrolet name on them has been made
till this day.
The
Chevrolet G20 was a GM produced full-sized van and evolved from the late 60´s until 1996 when it
was replaced by the Chevrolet Express. The G20´s low cost of upkeep size and options, have made this van popular
with all different kinds of trades, from plumbers to caterers. Variations of the G20 are Chevrolet Beauville,
the Chevrolet Sportvan, G10, G30, G31 and Chevrolet Nomad. GM also produced GMC Vandura, and the GMC Rally series
such as the Wagon and later the STX, the GMC Gypsy and Gaucho.
Fundamentally, it is a van designed for carrying people and cargo as effectively, comfortably and
efficiently as possible. And for everyone who like me has been the proud
owner of the little golden colored Chevrolet key, the sound of the roaring V8 as you turn the ignition on,
certainly has a special meaning.

My first Chevrolet G20 Van, year model 1988
Pictures 1 - 9 shows my first van. It had the 5.7 litre V8 and the 4-speed automatic gear box.
Inside seating arrangement of two buckets as driver and front passenger seats and a 3-seated bench.
A grating separating the cargo area from the passengers. A sliding door on the right side and the standard double
doors in the rear. Rust had gotten a firm grip on the bottom sections of all doors, especially the rear doors.
Noise coming from the rear axle, the AC out of order, but apart from that it was a really great van. The kids
loved this one, we only used it for one summer. Trips to the beach and it also came in handy when we moved from our
house.
My second G20, year model 1987
Pictures 10 - 18 shows my second van. It had the 5.0 litre V8 and the 4-speed automatic gear box. Everybody
was telling me that the 5.7 engine was the better one, but I never noticed any difference between the two. The
5.0 actually ran even smoother. Inside seating arrangement of two buckets as driver and front passanger.
Two buckets and a bench in the rear. The rear bench could also be converted into a queen size bed, not heavinly
comfortable though. Rust was eating it´s way through this veichle too, just like my first one. AC out of order,
most of the interior lights not functioning, but it was a Chevrolet and we all loved it. We kept this one for two seasons
and used it for holiday trips several times.

Chevrolet -
The Early Years 1909 -
William Durant, a successful buggy manufacture from Flint, Michigan, asked
Louis Chevrolet, a well known race car driver, to help design a car for introduction
to the public. He had not yet formed a company to manufacture it.
1911 -
The Chevrolet Motor Car Company enters the turbulent automobile market on November 3.
Durant envisions his new company as an inexpensive competitor to the Ford Model T.
He chose to name the company after its designer, Louis Chevrolet, because he liked
the sound of the name and because Chevrolet was a prominent name in motor sports.
1912 -
Chevrolet hits the streets of Detroit with the "Classic Six"--a large, 5-passenger
touring sedan with a long list of standard features, including four doors, electric
lights and folding top, plus a windshield and its own tool box. Its 299-cubic-inch,
6-cylinder engine could reach a top speed of 65 miles per hour.

Chevrolet set a new standard for truck
power when it introduced the light-truck industry's
first overhead valve six-cylinder engine in 1929. Ford answered with a flat head V-8
in 1932 and Dodge with a flat head six in 1933. Because a truck's purpose is to move
the largest possible load in the shortest possible time at the lowest possible cost,
Chevrolet engineers hit a bases loaded home run with their new 194 cubic inch, 46
horsepower "cast iron"....

Chevy SS: 50 Years of Super Sport Author:
Robert GenatOn the 1957 auto show circuit Chevrolet
unveiled a show car based on its Corvette and dubbed the "Super Sport." The performance car
world took one look, and never looked back. A combination of styling and performance
upgrades, the SS package could turn something as mundane as a 6-cylinder Malibu into the
fire-breathing Chevelle SS396. This book traces the long line of legendary SS models from
Chevy’s Super Sport version of its popular Impala, which marked the dawn of the muscle car
era, to today’s Impala SS. Featuring the work of acclaimed photo ace David Newhardt,
Chevy SS: 50 Years of Super Sport provides a close-up, detailed, full-color look at such
beloved muscle cars as the Chevelle, the Camaro, the El Camino, the Malibu, and the Monte
Carlo. The book is a fittingly elegant celebration of the cars that redefined “high
performance” and defined an era.
