'<b>Legend of the Chinese Dragon</b><br />Author: ' +
'Marie Sellier</a><p class="goblack">Legend of the Chinese Dragon is a beautiful book that is ' +
'reminiscent of a Native American creation story. In many Asian countries the dragon is an ' +
'all-powerful and benevolent creature. In China, and Korea, it is believed that emperors were ' +
'descendants of dragons. In the Legend of the Chinese Dragon the story is of how the dragon ' +
'was created from elements of animals that were worshiped or revered in the different regions ' +
'of China. The story is told in both English and Mandarin Chinese. It is a lovely story and ' +
'the illustration is reminiscent of Chinese paper cutting. The chops are wonderful and would ' +
'be a great activity for students to make connections between the Chinese character and the ' +
'animal. For example, the chop for bird looks like the wing of a bird. In ancient China, the ' +
'different tribes lived under the protection of benevolent spirits that took the form of ' +
'animals--fish, ox, bird, horse, and serpent. But, as often happens, the tribes grew envious ' +
'of each other and began to fight amongst themselves in the names of their spirits. The ' +
'children decided to declare a war on war by creating a creature that combined the best of ' +
'all the spirits and would protect all the people. To this day, the dragon is a symbol of ' +
'peace and plays an especially important role in the celebration of ' +
'the Chinese New Year.<br /></p></td>' +

'Karl P. N. Shuker</a><p class="goblack">If you ever encounter a dragon, it would be good to ' +
'have this book on hand. Thanks to it, you will be able to recognize the particular species ' +
'of the beast you have met, whether worm, basilisk, cockatrice, tarasque, peluda, or mere ' +
'dragonet. Knowing such information could keep you from accidentally feeding a baby wyvern, ' +
'as a girl named Maud did in Herefordshire, whereupon it grew into a winged monster that ' +
'terrorized the countryside until it was finally dispatched by a fearless knight. Charmingly ' +
'written and gorgeously illustrated with dragons ranging from Babylonian Ishtar´s guard ' +
'dragon as portrayed in mosaic bas-relief to Quetzalcoatl in Mayan codices to the creature ' +
'Saint George famously fought, this is an excellent popular folklore tome.<br /></p></td>' +

'H. Gustavo Ciruelo Cabral</a><p class="goblack">They lurk in the most hidden corners of the ' +
'world: the powerful and beautiful creatures known as dragons. We know them as the terrifying ' +
'beasts of fairy tales, but their own story has remained a mystery--until now. Ciruelo, an ' +

'<b>Dragons and Dragon Lore</b><br />Author: ' +
'Ernest Ingersoll</a><p class="goblack">The dragon is a mythical creature typically depicted '+
'as a gigantic and powerful serpent or other reptile with magical or spiritual qualities. ' +
'As with every mythological creature, dragons are perceived in different ways by different ' +
'cultures. Dragons are sometimes said to breathe and spit fire or even acid or ice ' +
'(depending on the type). They are commonly portrayed as serpentine or reptilian, hatching ' +
'from eggs and possessing extremely large, typically feathered or scaly bodies; they are ' +
'sometimes portrayed as having large yellow or red eyes, a feature that is the origin for ' +
'the word for dragon in many cultures, and are often (but not always) portrayed with a row ' +
'of dorsal spines, keeled scales, long crested ears, slitted eye pupils, leathery bat-like ' +
'wings and fiery breath. Some dragons do not have wings at all, but look more like long ' +
'snakes, such as Asian versions of the dragon, sometimes called the Lung. Dragons can have ' +
'a variable number of legs: none, two, four, or more when it comes to early European ' +
'literature. Modern depictions of dragons are very large in size,up to 50 miles in length, ' +
'but some early European depictions of dragons were only the size of bears, or, in some ' +
'cases, even smaller, around the size of a butterfly or even a flea. Although dragons ' +
'(or dragon-like creatures) occur in many legends around the world, different cultures have ' +
'varying stories about monsters that have been grouped together under the dragon label. ' +
'Chinese dragons, and Eastern dragons generally, are usually seen as benevolent, whereas ' +
'European dragons are usually malevolent (there are of course exceptions to these rules). ' +
'Malevolent dragons also occur in Persian mythology (see Azhi Dahaka) and other cultures. '+
'Dragons are particularly popular in China, and along with the phoenix, the 5-clawed dragon ' +
'was a symbol of the Chinese emperors. Dragon costumes manipulated by several people are a ' +
'common sight at Chinese festivals. Dragons are often held to have major spiritual ' +
'significance in various religions and cultures around the world. In many Eastern and Native ' +
'American cultures dragons were, and in some cultures still are, revered as representative ' +
'of the primal forces of nature, religion and the universe. Many pre-Columbian cultures ' +
'were fascinated by the power of dragons. The Moche people depicted dragons frequently in ' +
'their ceramics. They are associated with wisdom - often said to be wiser than humans - ' +
'and longevity. They are commonly said to possess some form of magic or other supernatural ' +
'power, and are often associated with wells, rain, and rivers. In some cultures, they are ' +
'also said to be capable of human speech.<br /></p><!-- AMAZON IMP --><img ' +
